Martin Eichinger, born in 1949, earned both an art and business degree from Ferris State University, did post graduate work in sculpting at Michigan State and also pursued studies in classical sculpture in Europe. He now lives and works in Portland, Oregon.
Eichinger's bronzes are refreshingly unique. They are evidence of a visionary artist who has something positive and eternal to say with his talent. A profound comprehension of human anatomy has allowed the artist to place his sculpture studies on the edge of possibility without loosing their sense of grace.
"I'm not happy if my sculpture doesn't have something to do with the conversation that happens around it, your interactions with the people looking at it, and your ability to have your beliefs, your ethics, your passions leak out of you through the sculpture."
The romantic characters he creates are alive in the mind of Martin Eichinger, if nowhere else. Each sculpture has a personality, a story to tell, a wink of humor, a hint of tragedy or a whole philosophy if we look a bit more closely. We find ourselves drawn into these figure's private worlds. We are looking not only at the figure but also into a window he has opened up into the human heart, and there we recognize ourselves. Our stories, our personal narratives become entangled with those of the sculptor's and that is Eichinger's plan.
Eichinger has won numerous awards and competitions. His bronzes are in private collections worldwide and he is also known for several public monumental works.
