Michael Flohr was born in 1975 and raised in Southern California. He started painting at the age of four and was later accepted into the prestigious San Francisco's Academy of Art. Flohr is inspired by famous American artist Edward Hopper and John Singer-Sargent. Hopper's American street scenes, interiors and landscapes, and Sargent's figurative studies of humanity are what intrigues him about these artists. Flohrs favorite artist is Impressionist Toulouse-Lautec who like Flohr observed and captured in his art contemporary nightlife.

Flohr works in the medium of oil on canvas. The artist executes his paintings with a strong confident brushstroke placed on the canvas in small squares. In this way his brushstrokes carefully placed with power under restraint. A juxtaposition of contemporary, Flohr works in many layers of oil which creates an illusion of colors that are not actually painted onto the canvas. His masterful use of light enhances each work.. Michael Flohr's style is impressionistic, capturing modern day living, and abstract in color and design.
