"The Cross of the Millineum" Third Life Size
The Cross of the Millennium commemorated the millennium, and was created in celebration of the 2,000 year anniversary of the birth of our Lord. The timeless mystery and glory of the resurrection is vividly retold in the materials of our advanced technological age as we enter the twenty-first century. The translucent acrylic resin material and the new technology allow the creation of sculpture made of pure light—the very symbol of Christ. The work is designed so that the birth, evoked by the facets of the star of Bethlehem, the death, and the mystery of the resurrection, are seen simultaneously as a single impulse of the Creator.
The Cross of the Millennium is truly a universally spiritual work of art. It invites a transcendental response and provides the opportunity for reflection.
In 1997 Frederick Hart presented the third-life-size The Cross of the Millennium to Pope John Paul II in a private ceremony at the Vatican. The Pope remarked,” You have created a profound theological statement for our day.”
