Day and night, sky and earth, rain and shine, male and female, yin and yang — these complementary opposites are at the very core of life and existence. Take away science and biology, enter the human spirit, and we find a miraculous, albeit mysterious, phenomenon of a perfect union between man and woman. From the beginning of time we have relied on this mystery for the survival of our species.

Artist Henry Asencio’s introspective works of art ponder such mysteries of spirit. Renowned for his paintings of the female form, the artist expands his visual repertoire in his most recent work to pay tribute to both masculine splendor and the strength of its female counterpart. The explosive pose of Asencio’s female muse in Chaos is juxtaposed against the unyielding stance of the male figure in Resolution to serve as a commentary on the passionate and poetic “Dance of Polarity” that plays between the sexes. The artist’s choice of color further enhances the visual power of this pair of images. Like fire and ice, his bold yet complimentary palettes of intense reds and sobering blue hues create a dynamic balance amidst the Chaos and Resolution, respectively, as the dance ensues.
