"Duet"

"Duet" is one of Deborah Bigeleisen most dramatic works.
After leaving my former career as a textile designer and C.E.O. of my own global design company in New York City , I am now pursuing full time my joy of painting.
I've always loved working with color, design, and texture, deriving inspiration from the colors and patterns in nature. I work in oils because I love the sensual physical quality of the medium. For me they are a vehicle for pure expression. Drawing inspiration from the techniques of the 17 th Century Dutch Master Artists and the incredible depth and luminosity achieved in their paintings through as many as 40 layers of glazing, I approach my painting in the same classic manner.
I work exclusively from my own photographs, and travel extensively to botanical gardens to find my subject. The rose garden, as well every other garden, at the Butchart Gardens in Victoria , BC , Canada remains my absolute favorite place to photograph. I look to capture my subject in just the right light, convey all its character, its fragility, its voluptuousness, and preserve the beauty that I see through my painting. My goal is to share that beauty with the viewer and bring never ending joy to the collector.
