"Ex Nihilo Working Model Fragment"
"Ex Nihilo Working Model Fragment"
I first became intrigued with the lyrical beauty of clear acrylic resin when I was working on the National Cathedral. In stone, the figures emerge from a solid mass. Here the figures are opaque and disappear into the light creating a spiritual relationship between light and form, and a sense of mystery around being and non-being. The Ex Nihilo, Working Model Fragment was conceived in clear acrylic resin. This brilliant work marries elegantly the masterwork of Hart’s artistic genius, Ex Nihilo and his legacy to the twenty-first century—the pioneering use of clear acrylic resin. Ex Nihilo, Working Model Fragment is the onlyin clear acrylic resin work from the Washington National Cathedral Collection. The coupling of Figures 5 and 6 create a dramatic, emotional, spiritual, and sensual interplay. The Ex Nihilo, Working Model is the intermediate-scale model of Ex Nihilo, The Creation Sculptures, Washington National Cathedral.
