In Veil of Light Hart uses light not to reveal form but to create it. The result is a stunning vision of a graceful female figure wrapt in flowing, diaphanous robes being transformed into a luminescent spirit.Veil of Light has a conceptual beginning in Hart’s appreciation for the romantic nature of the Art Nouveau style of the late 1900’s. In particular, we can see the inspiration of dancer Loie Fuller and her celebrated Fire Dance. She perfected this dance in which silken material swirled hypnotically around her shadowy form while light shone from beneath the stage to give her the appearance of dancing in a rhythmic garment of light.Veil of Light is a visceral work with its swirling dance movement, its sheer physical beauty, and its use of light to hypnotically seduce the viewer. On all accounts it is a work of great style and presence.
