Thomas Meyers Biography
Thomas Meyers was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. in 1951. As a young man he was attracted to art glass, stained glass and architecture, and has been expressing himself artistically for as long as he can remember. Thomas now resides in Antrim, N.H. in a very interesting house described as an "earth sheltered" construction.
Specializing in Laminated Glass Mosaic Art, Thomas Meyers Studio designs innovative architectural glass art. A collaborative union with Conrad Szymkowicz Inc. Woodworker has expanded his capacity to include fine architectural wood components and furnishings.
The process of creating his work unites three disciplines: collage, stained glass, and mosaic. This innovative and unique art form can be best describes as "laminated glass mosaic". The glass panels are comprised of various iridescent, mirrored, dichroic, and textured sheet glasses, hand cut and set, sometimes in multiple layers onto a framed wood panel. The glass reacts to both natural and artificial light, creating a dynamic luminosity, revealing textures, depth and vibrant color. His innate style of designing by collage, which he first used assembling works of paper is the technique he finds most natural and spontaneous for glass and mixed media wall panels.
