There are 365 days in a year, 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour, and 60 seconds in a minute. Days go by and years pass. Time never stops - or does it?
Could there be such a thing as a timeless moment? A moment when something extraordinary happens, time seems to "stand still" we're never quite the same. The experience is eternally etched on our heart and minds.
Moments like these come and go so quickly in life. So fleeting are these experiences that one can only wish to stop the clock and linger for an eternity - or at very least a few more moments. How do we keep these moments alive? Some may document with a photograph or others may write in a diary. An artist will create a painting.
Michael Flohr's "Timeless Moment" is just such a moment translated into living color. The old, romantic charm of Market Street in San Francisco sets the scene. Enter a quiet stroll with someone special. Moist from the fog, the street glistens with a magical glow reminiscent of a dream. The stained glass mosaic of color reflecting off the buildings further adds a fantasy-like quality to his recollection. Symbolically, the clock tower stands in the shadow of a street lamp. In the darkness of his memory time has stopped. But in reality, each passing moment breathes another stroke of life into the brush.
Specifics of the memory aren't important anymore - for the beauty of the memory has been captured. Flohr has rendered his "Timeless Moment" on canvas and there it will remain.
Perhaps what the artist wants to convey is how precious time is and maybe the only thing truly timeless are the timeless moments we hold dear
