Information About the Series
Salvador Dali was born May 11, 1904 in Figueres, Spain. Dali practiced his art from an early age and eventually went on to study at an academy in Madrid. Later, in the 1920’s Dali went to Paris and began interacting with Picasso, Magritte, and Miro leading to his first Surrealist phase. The rise of the fascist leader Franco in Spain led to Dali’s expulsion from the movement, but that did not prevent him from painting.
Tiger Lilies of the Theater shows a vibrant orange tiger lily flower with lips, what seems to be a mustache entangled in its roots, and a figure walking towards a theater building behind. In fact, this is a limited edition artist proof lithograph numbered EA on the lower left and signed in pencil on the lower right. Numbered EA (Epreuve d’artist/Artist Proof), Edition Size 350, 75 EA. Published by Editions Graphiques International in 1972. From the Series Surrealist Flowers (15 pieces).
