Learn More About Robert Madvin

Detroit based artist Robert Madvin specializes in glass sculptures. He was born in 1982 in Michigan. His brother, Andrew Madvin, first introduced Robert to glass art while in high school. Robert later studied glass-blowing at the College of Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan. He also studied at the University of Hawaii. While he earned his degree in fine arts from the College of Creative Studies, Robert began working with his brother to develop their own glass art studio called Axiom Glass at the Russell Industrial Center in Detroit, Michigan.

Now seven years later, Robert still blows glass and improves his artwork. Robert’s inspiration comes from nature. For example, his artwork focuses on natural elements, textures, and color. He takes inspiration from his travels and his day to day life. For instance, while Robert was studying in Hawaii, he created his glass sculpture series called Pohaku, meaning “rock” or “stone.” Ancient Hawaiians would stack stones upon one another to create rock sculptures. The sculptures acted as navigational tools throughout the islands.

Robert saw these organic tools while hiking various trails in Hawaii. He developed them into his glass stacked stone sculptures. They are now shown at art shows and galleries throughout the US and Canada. Robert resides in Royal Oak, Michigan and continues developing his passion for glass.
