Born in Michigan in 1949. Though his father was a graphic artist, he would say that his 7th grade teacher was the person that inspired his interest in art. After studying design and anatomy at Ferris State University in Michigan, Martin Eichinger did postgraduate work in sculpture at Michigan State University, while also pursuing independent studies of classical sculpture in Europe. He does not refer to himself as a figurative sculptor, despite his obvious understanding of human anatomy. “I am a narrative artist. The language I use is form and anatomy, but what I try to sculpt is romantic, emotional and perhaps mythic art.” His sculptures are evidence of a visionary artist who has something positive and eternal to say with his talent.

Eichinger works in his 6,000 square foot studio; with its sixteen-foot high ceilings Eichinger creates dramatic bronzes that range in scale from intimate to monumental. For more than twenty years, this dynamic, visionary artist has produced limited-edition sculptures that engage the minds and hearts of collectors and resonate within our larger social and political culture. Grouped into themed series, the sculptures chronicle the eternal human pursuit of meaning, happiness, and growth.

In Eichinger’s mind, the sculptures he creates are alive. Each piece has a personality, a unique story, a hint of tragedy, a wink of humor, or a glimpse into his personal philosophy. His sculptures are poised at the brink of possibility while maintaining their sense of grace. Next to his sculpting, Eichinger’s passion is rock climbing. This comes through in his designs, as well as his stone like patinas.

Martin Eichinger is a professional member of the National Sculpture Society and has won numerous competitions and awards for his bronze sculptures, including the C. Perceival Dietsch award for “Best Sculpture in the Round”. Most notably, he has received a Kellogg Internship and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. In addition, Eichinger and his bronze circus were guests of Prince Rainier of Monaco at Festival International du Cirque. Today more than 20 select fine art galleries nationwide and housed in many prestigious private and corporate collections represent Eichinger’s bronze sculptures.

Eichinger has been actively involved in the development of artist’s communities in the Pacific Northwest. He was one of the founding members of the Pacific Northwest Sculpture Association. He has offered classes and workshops on the techniques of figurative sculpting to people of all ages. Martin Eichinger’s interest in art education and the promotion of art are an integral part of his work, philosophy and life.
