Populous Soup by Craig Alan

Populus Series Andy Warhol Tribute

An homage to the iconic Campbell’s Soup Can by Andy Warhol is represented by Populous Soup. Before embarking on painting, Warhol had a background as a commercial illustrator. On July 9, 1962, Warhol’s first one-man gallery exhibition at the Ferus Gallery of Los Angeles, California, curated by Irving Blum, showcased Campbell’s Soup Cans. Offense was initially taken by some due to the subject matter, in part because of its affront to the technique and philosophy of the earlier art movement of abstract expressionism. Questions arose regarding Warhol’s motives as an artist. The association of Warhol with the subject led to his name becoming synonymous with the Campbell’s Soup Can paintings.

Artwork Details:

  • Medium: Giclee on canvas
  • Size: 40″W x 50″H
  •  Edition of 75
  • Signed & Numbered by Craig Alan
  • Artist-signed Certificate of Authenticity is included
